Keeping your weeds at bay can seem like a never-ending, uphill battle. You spend all of your precious Saturday pulling weeds, only to have them pop back up a couple of weeks later. Luckily, weed control for your lawn in Grand Junction doesn’t have to be an ever-present frustration. The experts at Mesa Turf Masters have come up with the following secrets for ridding your lawn of those pesky weeds:
- Get to know the enemy – Different kinds of weeds require different treatment methods, so before you can figure out the best way to get rid of your weeds, you need to know what you are dealing with. Find a quality field guide and take an inventory of the weeds in your lawn to determine whether you are up against annual weeds or perennial weeds.
- If you have annual weeds – You need a few days of hot and dry conditions before you attempt to remove your annual weeds. After your lawn has been hot and dry for three or four days, grab your hoe, rake or trowel to attack those weeds. The dry heat will ensure that your weeds will shrivel up and die, even if you missed something while you were cultivating your lawn.
- If you have perennial weeds – Perennial weeds tend to have long taproots that are difficult to pull out of the ground completely when it is dry. To remove these weeds, you will either need to wait for the rain or use your hose to make sure the soil is wet and loose. Once you’ve prepared your soil, you can start pull the roots out of the ground. If the soil has been prepared properly, the roots should come out intact without too much problem.
