April is almost over, and we’ve enjoyed plenty of those showers that April is famous for. With all of the moisture that we’ve had lately, our lawns are in need of some serious mowing. Unfortunately, you can’t just pull out your lawn mower from storage and get going. In order to get the best results, you need to tune up your lawn mower after the long winter. Our lawn care experts in Vail, CO have come up with the following guide on how to prepare your lawn mower for spring:
- Remove the spark plug – Before you do anything to your lawn mower, you need to make sure that you remove the spark plug. By disconnecting the spark plug, you are preventing your mower from starting while you are working on it. While you are disconnecting the spark plug, check it out. If it is starting to look old and worn, replace it with a new one once you are done tuning up the rest of your mower.
- Filter – The air filter is responsible for filtering out grime, dirt and other debris, and it needs to be clean in order to do its job properly. You have two options with your filter, you can clean it out or you can replace it with a new one if it is starting to look unsalvageable.
- Blade – The blade is what actually cuts the grass, and in order for it to work efficiently, you need to make sure that it is sharp enough. Mowing with a dull blade is not only frustrating, but it’s bad for your lawn because it pulls and tears your grass, rather than cutting it evenly. You can take your mower to your local hardware store to have it sharpened, but if you want to sharpen it yourself, stay tuned for our next blog to learn how!
