In one of our previous blogs, we talked about what kinds of things you need to do in order to properly maintain your lawn mower. The winter has flown by, and while it’s not quite over yet, all of the nice weather we’ve been having already has us thinking about spring! Spring is the perfect time of the year to drag your lawn mower out of storage and mow your lawn! However, not many people know that there is actually a right and a wrong way to mow your lawn. Luckily, our lawn care experts in Vail, CO have come up with this guide for mowing your lawn properly:
- Pay attention to height- The length of your grass is one of those cases where size matters. Cutting your lawn too short could cause it to become weak in all kinds of conditions, like extreme heat or cold, drought, disease or even pest attacks. It is also important not to cut too much of your grass at one time, as your grass won’t be able to recover as well. A good rule of thumb is to cut off a third of your grass at a time; you may have to mow more often to get the result you want, but it will keep your grass healthier.
- Keep your blades sharp- As we learned in a previous blog, having sharp blades will prevent your lawn mower from ripping or tearing at your grass, which will allow it to recover much better from mowing.
